Announcing the 2023-2024 Featured Composer Program!

Classical Revolution RVA is excited to announce that we are once again offering an opportunity for local composers to have their works performed by CRRVA musicians!

Read the announcement and application details here.

Applications are due on April 22nd, 2023 and must be submitted using this form. Up to four applicants will be selected to be featured on a recital (“Listen Local”) in September 2023; one of these composers will then be selected as our 2023-2024 Featured Composer.

The composers to be featured on Listen Local will be announced in May 2023.

Interested composers may read the agreement, expectations, and responsibilities of the Featured Composer here.

Exciting changes are coming to Classical Incarnations!

It is our great pleasure to announce that, starting in March, Classical Incarnations will be held at Gallery5, one of our favorite venues, on the third Sunday of every month! Our long-standing partnership with the Hof has been a wonderful one - greatly appreciated by musicians and audiences alike - and we look forward to future collaborations with them.

Gallery5 is a fantastic street-level venue with large doors that stand open when the weather is nice. The residents of Jackson Ward, pedestrians, and even people driving by in their cars will now have an opportunity to hear live classical music right in their neighborhood!

Our beautiful acoustic piano, Bernie, will be relocated from the Hof to Orbital Music Park, another of our favorite partners! There, it will be put to good use by musicians of all genres from around Richmond, in addition to being used for CRRVA events held in OMP’s Lunar Lounge. While we will miss Bernie at Incarnations, G5 and CRRVA are planning to purchase a high quality hybrid piano in July. If you want to help us secure funding for our new instrument, you can make donations at www.classicalrevolutionrva.com/donate and add the note “piano” as a special instruction!

Although changes are always bittersweet, I hope that you are all as excited as I am for this transition and the amazing musical opportunities that it brings!

Becca Longhenry, General Director

Congratulations to our featured composers!

Classical Revolution RVA is delighted to announce that we have selected four composers to be featured on Listen Local, our free recital featuring works by composers living in the Richmond area on December 18th, 2021 at 8 pm at Gallery5. Of these four composers, one will be selected as our 2022 Featured Composer.

It is a testament to the creativity and artistry in Richmond that so many skilled composers submitted works of such quality! Again, this was not a competition, and our aim was not to elevate any composer above the others, but to support composers as a whole and give their works a platform from which to be heard by audiences who wouldn't otherwise hear them.

The featured composers will be:

Colton Dodd

David Robbins

Curt Sydnor

Donovan Williams
